The site is a residential area in the mountains of Hiroshima, a place where you can spend a relaxing time. Thanks to each lot compromising of plenty of space, although the area is surrounded by other houses, they aren't built closely together.

The owners are a two-parent, three-child family of five. To maintain their privacy, yet to not close them off completely, they wanted to make a wide garden where the children could play as well as a comfortable space where they could feel the breeze. First they constructed three buildings in the lot, making the south building into a living space for the family, the north building into a private space, and the east building is a garage. The space between each building is filled with entrances, terraces, atriums, and balconies, and they're each joined by passages.

A large garden has been constructed in front of the south building. This building has eaves that stretch out by as much as 2 meter, with ends being brought downwards to ensure a suitable level of privacy. As the depth of these eaves reduce the amount of sunlight, this can be compensated for by catching the rays of the sun that filter through the gaps of the buildings into the interiors. The space between these buildings also acts as wind corridors, and they can make this wind circulate around their buildings by forcing the wind to flow in north-south, east-west, and up-down directions.

You can see well-behaved children sitting at a low dining table. From the garden as well you can look up to see what they children are doing on the second floor. This state of living, that overcomes boundaries between inside and outside, can be thought to be down to the abundance of openness at this residence.
