Project
Open Court House
Fukuoka / Japan, 2001
Description
A home located in a quiet residential neighborhood. To realize the client’s dream of eventually living in a house surrounded by woods, we approached the project by designing the lot as a whole, treating the 330-square-meter exterior area and the 330-square-meter interior with equal attention. Turning the conventional concept of an urban home with a closed-off courtyard on its head, we instead centered a string of 4-meter-wide rooms around an open courtyard. Concrete masonry and steel curtains create a space that is filled with light and fresh air.
