Description
Situated in central Tokyo’s university and publishing district, this new mixed-use project will provide urban streetscape character for its immediate neighborhood through the introduction of plazas whose fountains, seating areas, cafes, and sculptures will serve residents, workers, and the community.
Distinctive broken stone paving provides a unifying carpet on which building and landscape rest. Its relaxed, informal pattern provides visual relief from the orthogonal geometry of the buildings, as do the curved landscape walls that infuse the plaza environment with color. A distinctive curved fountain berm constructed in textured stainless steel directs attention to the entrance and frames a garden plot along the sidewalk. Sculpture at both corner entrances adds a vertical accent to the low-slung composition of walls, planting, and water.
