The First Prototype of "Whole Plastic Architecture"

This architecture was floating on the water. We constructed all of this only by ourselves cooperated with the members of Fujiki Studio, KOU::ARC in the summer of 2006.

Architecture until now has been hard, heavy and unmoving; however, when I think about architecture in the future, it should be soft, light and moving. This work is a prototype based on this idea. This architecture consists of soft plastic materials and it is boneless like a jellyfish.

By the way, do you know traditional Japanese ORIGAMI? It is an elegant technique to create various shapes by folding a piece of square paper. Applying this technique to fold soft plastic materials makes it possible for structures to stand independently. In addition, by weaving 1m by 4m sized materials extensively together like fabrics, it is possible to create large structure.
