Sample Event

Once every two months Osaka architects Kohki Hiranuma and Ryuichi Ashizawa invite a third architect to join in an open discussion about architectural philosophy and experience. This month's guest is the world-renowned Shigeru Ban. Ban is perhaps best known for his cheap and comfortable yet still beautiful disaster relief structures made from paper tubes and other recycled materials. Following last year's Tohoku tsunami he designed temporary housing from shipping containers and a widely-adopted system of divider screens for emergency shelters.

The lecture series, called 217, takes place from 7pm and requires advance registration via the event website listed to the right; the cost is 1,000 yen. Some spots are usually available on the day of the event, though seats are limited and late-comers may have to stand. Tickets are distributed at 6pm - come early for the best chance of a spot.
